The Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Mr Thomas
Chow and The Consul General of France in Hong Kong and Macau, Mr Jean-Pierre
attend The Deep exhibition opening ceremony at the Hong Kong Science
Museum. Hong
Kong.
Covering more than 70% of the Earth’s surface, the ocean is
the cardle of all life. The deep sea, which occupies 85% of the space, has been
immersed in total darkness yet we know little about it. Only very recently have
we developed the technology necessary to journey to this dark world, and what
we have found there could not have been imagined.
“The Deep” invites visitors to peer into the abyss teeming
with life that is beyond our reach and imagination through the latest scientific
research with amazing colour imagery.
More than 30 specimens and 60 photo, many of which are taken
for the very first time, depict the various unfamiliar and fragile ecosystems
existing in the realm.
The exhibition will run at the Science Museum
from July 11 to November 12.

For
the first time since 1992, with the support of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club
(RHKYC)and the Hong Kong Sailing Federation, Hong Kong entered a team in this
year’s Rolex Commodores’ Cup, held out of Cowes,
England, from
29 June to 6 July. Comprising the cream of Hong Kong’s
big-boat sailors, the Hong Kong Team competed on three boats, namely Yeoman
of Wight, Holmatro and Orient Express, skippered by Jamie McWilliam,
Marty Kaye and Rick Strompf/Inge Strompf-Jepsen respectively. The Team
finished
5th out of 15 national entries, only 14 points behind France Blue.
RHKYC is very pleased to see Hong Kong Team’s achievement under such a strong
