「國泰航空/滙豐香港國際七人欖球賽」今日正式舉行，16支來自世界各地的欖球勁旅齊集香港大球場，競逐「滙豐世界七人欖球系列賽」香港站錦標，南非、新西蘭、斐濟和澳洲等佔據「滙豐世界七人欖球系列賽」排名榜前列的球隊，悉數在今晚進行的首輪分組賽輕鬆取勝。

香港男女子隊分別在香港大球場及香港足球會分途上陣。香港男子隊在「滙豐世界七人欖球系列賽」外圍賽中越戰越勇，在兩場分組賽中一勝一負，暫列E組次席。而香港女子隊在「國泰航空/滙豐香港女子七人欖球賽」勇奪銀盃賽第四名，加拿大以24:12擊敗日本，蟬聯銀盃冠軍。

香港男子隊在香港大球場出戰「滙豐世界七人欖球系列賽」外圍賽，力爭晉級下季「滙豐世界七人欖球系列賽」種籽隊伍資格。

香港在外圍賽與巴西、烏拉圭及墨西哥同處E組，今天首先進行兩場分組賽。首場分組賽面對明年奧運主辦國巴西，上半場甫開賽便施以突襲得分，領先5:0；港隊稍後穩定陣腳取回優勢，先由華路雲(Rowan Varty)扳回一球，繼而由T.麥堅(T. McQueen)為球隊取得第二次達陣，半場以12:5領先巴西；可是下半場巴西後勁凌厲，以兩次快速反擊撕破港隊防線，結果香港在首場分組賽以12:17落敗。

港隊在第二場分組賽與墨西哥對壘，表現大勇，甫開賽便由A.麥堅(A. McQueen)迅速打開紀錄，加上賀迪(Jamie Hood)和T.麥堅(T. McQueen)的達陣得分，上半場以17:5領先；香港在下半場攻勢更加旺盛，先後由華路雲、姚錦成和賀迪突破得分，最終以38:5獲勝。香港明早將與烏拉圭進行最後一輪分組賽事，爭取出線資格。

港隊華將李卡度在賽後表示：「第二次比賽打得比首場好，不過還有進步的空間，今天回去後會回想一下有什麼地方做得不好，爭取更多休息，希望明天能夠及早恢復體力，全力爭取最佳成績。」

「國泰航空/滙豐香港國際七人欖球賽」首日賽事共有38642名觀眾入場。明天將繼續上演「滙豐世界七人欖球系列賽」香港站的餘下兩輪分組賽及外圍賽最後一回合小組賽及八強淘汰賽。

A superb unbeaten run from Hong Kong, including a 31-14 victory over Asian champions China, pushed the hosts into a commanding position at the end of the opening day of the Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Women’s Sevens tournament on Thursday. 

Hong Kong had earlier in the day pulled off another fine victory over Kazakhstan, 17-5, and opened their account with a 41-0 win over Singapore. 

“I am very happy with the way the girls performed and very happy with where we finished after day one. It has given us a great shot at day two,” said Richards. “We talked a lot this week about being calm and having ball control and that was what I was most pleased about today.  

Hong Kong’s goal is to reach the Cup final for the first time in the history of the Hong Kong Women’s Sevens and play in front of the Friday night crowd at the Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens.
