Selecting from the squad of Mika Hoshino, Emiko Kanda, Fumiko Shinpo
and Tomoko Tamura; Japan reached the final of the Women’s Team event at
the World Championships in 1983.
On Sunday 4th May at the ZEN-NOH
2014 World Team Championships, the 31 year wait to repeat the
achievement came to a close. Kasumi Ishikawa, Yuka Ishigaki and Sayaka
Hirano combined to beat the Hong Kong trio of Lee Ho Ching, Jiang Huajun
and Ng Wing Nam to book their place in the final of the Women’s
Championship Division.
Furthermore, they completed the triumph in
the very same hall as their predecessors, players who excelled at World
level before they were born.
