Boca Juniors will be making their debut at the HKFC Citibank
International Soccer Sevens.
Five-time European champions Liverpool and Argentine giants Boca Juniors will make their debuts in next month’s HKFC International Soccer Sevens, which will also have a new title sponsor in global financial corporation Citibank.In addition, the tournament will see a first appearance by former Italy captain Franco Baresi – one of the game’s greatest ever defenders – who will lead a team representing AC Milan Soccer Schools.
Soccer Sevens treasurer Mick Lonergan hailed the announcement that Liverpool and Boca Juniors would be gracing the event.“Aside from their five Champions League triumphs, Liverpool have won the English league title 18 times and have a massive fan base in Asia,” he said at the draw press conference at Hong Kong Football Club today (19 April).
The 2011 HKFC Citibank International Soccer Sevens will be held from 13-15 May at Hong Kong Football Club with a total of 28 teams taking part, 16 in the Main competition and 12 in the Masters.
Since it was first staged in 1999, the tournament – sanctioned by the Hong Kong Football Association – has developed into the world’s premier seven-a-side soccer event. The Main competition has become famous for unearthing the “stars of tomorrow” while the Masters section features former elite players from Europe’s top leagues.
