2017
US Open champ Sloane Stephens discussed channeling criticism through
a high-pressure season that could end with a win at the BNP Paribas
WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global should she beat Elina
Svitolina on Sunday.
The
American world number six recovered from a poor start to win 0-6 6-4
6-1.
The
match's momentum swung in the second set, with Czech Pliskova having
won each of the first eight games before Stephens took 12 of the next
15.
Elina
Svitolina discussed seeing her mental development in action at the
BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global, where she
reached the biggest final of her career over Kiki Bertens on Saturday

Osaka retires with injury, sending KiKi Bertens to WTA semifinals |

U.S. Open champion Naomi Osaka finished her debut appearance at the WTA Finals on Friday with an injury and an 0-3 record.
Osaka was trailing Kiki Bertens 6-3 when she retired from the match with an upper left leg injury.
Bertens was awarded a straight-set victory and has advanced to the semifinals.

A WTA Rising Stars
Invitational champion back in 2014, Osaka clinched her debut
appearance in Singapore shortly after winning her maiden major title
at the US Open, but an inconsistency on serve cropped up in Beijing
and has hampered her through losses to Kerber and Sloane Stephens on
Monday.
“I feel like
this match was sort of a continuation of my last match in a way that
I feel like I didn't serve well in either of them. In a way I'm very
proud of myself for being able to make the matches so close without
really having a first serve, but I don't know. I feel like I'm not
really sure how that's going wrong, and I want to practice it.”
