The 23-year-old from Chinese Taipei delivered an excellent performance on finals day at the 108th edition of the world’s oldest badminton tournament, withstanding a spirited display from Akane Yamaguchi to triumph 22-20 21-13.

The women’s singles game is fiercely competitive at present and so it would prove right up until the final in Birmingham, with the top seed harnessing every bit of her talent to overcome the second seed.

The women’s singles title has changed hands between nations for the last five years but Chinese Taipei can now celebrate back-to-back successes for the world number one.

And not only is the 22-year-old a winner of the world’s oldest badminton tournament, he had to beat fellow Chinese player and legend of the game Lin Dan do get there.

The seventh seed in Birmingham has been in excellent form all week and continued that on finals day to prevail 21-19 16-21 21-9, defeating a colleague of the China national team.
